A Summer Event Series at Plain & Fancy Farm

As America prepares to celebrate America250, Homestead Days at Plain & Fancy Farm offers a meaningful way to experience the traditions, craftsmanship, and culture that have shaped Lancaster County for generations.

Step Into Simpler Times

Homestead Days invites families, couples, and visitors of all ages to enjoy hands-on activities, engaging demonstrations, local food, and special experiences throughout the farm.

Watch skilled horsemen demonstrate horse care and horse washing. See a blacksmith shape and fit a horseshoe using traditional tools and techniques.

Children can enjoy a farm wide scavenger hunt, try historic yard games, and stop for a photo at the Plain & Fancy face in a hole board.

Throughout the season, craftsmen showcase traditional trades and skills including basket weaving, canning, leatherwork, and farming. Some demonstrations also include hands on opportunities for guests.

Visitors can also learn about Amish schooling and daily life while gaining a deeper understanding of the Plain community and the traditions that continue to be an important part of Lancaster County today.

Guests may also take a ride with Aaron and Jessica’s buggy tours through the countryside and visit a working Amish farm.

Most activities are free, with only select specialty items requiring a small fee.

Storytelling and Chalk Art

During select months, guests can enjoy music, storytelling, and chalk artistry from Elva Hurst, a former Old Order Mennonite woman whose presentations share insights into Plain culture and the early days of our country.

Through story and chalk, her artwork unfolds before your eyes as the story comes to life. Advance ticket purchase is recommended for these presentations.

Taste Lancaster County

Homestead Days also offers the chance to sample local flavors at The Barn & Hearth Shop, where guests can enjoy Lancaster County pickling and canning traditions including favorites like chow chow and dandelion jelly.

When you are ready for a meal, Smokehouse at Plain & Fancy Farm serves Pennsylvania Dutch favorites in a relaxed setting.

Guests can also stop by The Barn & Hearth Shop to pick up locally made treats like whoopie pies and shoofly pie.
